Last weekend, I finally got around to watching Apothecary Diaries. It was sold to me as an anime version of House M.D that takes place in Ancient China. However, even though Maomao spends much of her time solving medical mysteries, my brain made very different associations. What other anime features a romance between a rational, level-headed working class woman and a flirty, eccentric rich dude who wants nothing more than her affection? That's right: Ouran High School Host Club!

OHSHC is a product of its time (the mid-to-late 2000s), but it still really holds up. In some ways, it was actually really ahead of its time. I mean, the main character joins a club for boys to pay back a debt for knocking over an expensive vase. Eventually, they realize that she is a girl. But she was never trying to hide that fact, fool them, or prove a point; she just genuinely didn't really care how she was perceived, hoping that people would judge for her character rather than gender. Hello? The manga was written in 2002!

On top of that, the cast is unforgettable, the satire is impeccable, and the OST is the catchiest thing, ever. Scroll down for memes!
